IV sedation is administrated for highly anxious patients, it is a very strong sedative intravenously. IV is safer than a general anaesthetic. It creates almost total amnesia. IV also allows patients to breathe on their own unassisted, and does not cause nausea which sometimes occurs with general anaesthetic. This treatment allows the dentist to do the full scope of dentistry including surgical removal of impacted wisdom teeth.
